Kafenes "Makedonia"
The love for the traditional cafes in Greece is well known. The cafes of the Greek countryside were the heart of the male society of every place. , the “small parliaments of the country”, were at the same time places of professional transactions but also of snacks and parties of the company.
At the same time they were the intermediary of each village with the outside world. And it was here that every traveler would see, learn all the current news and get the answers to his questions.
However, today all this tends to disappear – information and news from the internet, human companies from TV and Facebook – isolation, privatization and modern cafes. Many cafes resist and retain their charm and atmosphere of a great world that is lost, but fights it.
One such cafe “Cafe Macedonia” is located on the ground floor of Velpina apartment so you can enjoy your coffee with modern recipes but with respect for tradition.

Municipal Museum "Polygnotos Vagis"
Polygnotos Vagis was born in Potamia, Thasos, and his father, Hatzigeorgiou, was a carpenter. He immigrated to New York in 1911 and dealt with sculpture. He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts and maintained a workshop in New York City for decades.
In his works he used stone, cement, and emphasized simplistic lines, an example of his connection with primitive art.He focused primarily on human and animal forms and on compositions such as the moon and the world. His works are on display at the Whitney Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art New York (MOMA), the National Gallery (Athens), the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Kavala Municipal Museum, etc.
In 1958 he was awarded the Audubon Artists Gold Medal and in 1962 with the Golden Cross of the Phoenix.
During the last years of his life he inherited much of his collection in the Greek state. Today in his hometown of Potamia, Thassos, there is a museum named after him, which houses 98 sculptures and 15 paintings.
He died on March 15, 1965 in New York City and was buried in Potamia, Thassos.

Folklore Museum of Skala Potamia
Tarsanas in Skala Potamias of Thassos is a beautiful listed building, which has now been turned into a folklore museum. It is located on the edge of the busy beach of the settlement which today is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the island.
The stone, traditionally built two-storey building of Tarsana in Skala Potamias, stands out with its brick roof and wooden windows. It was built in the last century to serve the needs of the monks who came from Mount Athos. Gradually, with the change of conditions, it was abandoned, until it was recently renovated and today it is a cultural center of the wider area, as it often hosts various cultural events.

Mount Ipsario
Ipsarion is the highest peak on Thassos (1204m) on the same name mountain.
In order to walk to the top of the mountain the best place to start from is Potamia. It will take you about 3 hours walking at a normal pace to reach the top. The way is clearly marked, paths are narrow and steep so you should be very careful.
The important thing is to start early in the morning because as soon as the sun shines brighter, the view from Ipsarion is not that clear. Another reason why you should go from the Potamia side is that the nature is more picturesque.
If you are not a fan of walking but you would like to see Ipsarion, another option is to go from the Maries village. It is 11km away from the top of the Ipsarion mountain.
The road is suitable for jeep, but if you are enthusiastic enough you can handle a few critical spots with your own car, the locals say. At one point above Maries, the road connects the road from Theologos. It means that another way to Ipsarion is from Theologos, but that road is even worse than the one from Maries and is about 15 kilometers long. If you start from Maries with your car, you can get as far as 100 meters from the top of Ipsarion

Holy Monastery of Archangel Michael
Female Holy Monastery founded by the Monastery of Filotheou. It is located in the southern part of the island and is one of the largest monasteries of Thassos. Built on the edge of the cliff, above a wild cove, it offers a unique spectacle.
In the Monastery is kept a piece of the Holy Material, that is, part of the nails on which Christ was crucified, while its exhibition is very rich. It is required to follow some dress code of decency, while clothes for those who have not been properly prepared are offered at the entrance.
According to the religious tradition, Saint Luke himself practiced asceticism and sanctification in the Monastery of the Archangel Michael. For the inhabitants of Thassos, the Monastery of Archangel Michael is the pilgrimage of their island and Archangel Michael is considered their patron saint. It celebrates on November 8, the feast of the Archangel and the Tuesday of Diakainisimos
